Get Off My Internets

I have Jacky to thank for finding this online.  Apparently one of my blog readers was upset that I was referring my food to looking like poo in a couple posts ago and thinks I’ve gone off the deep end. 

I know what I put myself out here that I am fair game, but this is kind of crazy.  She said she used to feel sorry for me because my husband died, but now I am just out of control.  You can check it out here.

Just wanted this to let this sit out there and get your thoughts on it while I am visiting my parents in law this weekend. 

And to this person – the “sponsors” I have are not really sponsors.  Yes, I’ve been invited to an all expense paid trips for the National Cattleman’s Associate, and yes I get free cheese from Cabot and free yogurt from time to time from Chobani, but I don’t make a cent off of any of these “sponsors” on a regular basis, so I will continue to live out loud and well, if you don’t like what you read here, there are about a billion other food blogs you can read.

And from what I can gather:  GOMI – means get off my internet, like you shouldn’t be blogging anymore and SOMI – means stay on my internet.

    Ignore the internet trolls they are mean people with no lives and nothing
    better to do than trash other people.

    You are the ONLY food blog I read on a daily basis precisely because you are YOU and I find your sense of humor, your realness, and your style really refreshing. It friggin blows my mind that there is a website out there dedicated to bitching about other people’s blogs. FFS, people like that have way too much time on their hands. Keep on doing you, Biz.     Pay no attention to trolls like her. Honestly. Some people just need to bitch and moan about others because they are unhappy and small minded. I love your honesty! And yes the peanut butter pic did look like poo. You had the guts to post it and say so! LOVE IT! I don’t think you’re out of control at all. Like so many others have said, nobody is forcing her to read your blog! Keep doing what you do best!

    I subscribed to other food blogs, but to be honest none of those speak to me the way yours does. I love the fact that you are a real person who curses, and cries, and gains weight, and loses weight, and is perfectly imperfect….like the rest of us.     What is wrong with people??? SMDH…. The person who started the thread is obviously nutso and no one is taking him/her seriously. You are not the blogger for them as everything they were complaining about is the reason why we all read you. I love crass and food that looks like poo! 😉

    Do people really have nothing better to do with their time? I’m a big believer in if you don’t like it… don’t read, don’t buy it, don’t wear it, don’t support it etc. We all have a choice. You and your blog are “real” and I believe that is what draws people to you. Kimberly summed it up really well. We Love you just the way you are!

    Biz – Have you heard of Brene Brown? I think she is one of the smartest, most insightful people putting her ideas out there in the world today. She talks about shame and vulnerability and “daring greatly.” She talks about “Twitter thugs.” People who never risk anything but criticize the people who do, and how they don’t matter. She often quotes Teddy Roosevelt, who said: “It’s not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the person who is in the arena. Whose face is marred with dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly … who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly …”

    All this is to say, fuck the cowardly critics and keep being you.

    Please don’t read that stuff! If you get more notifications that you’re being trashed, ignore! I know two former bloggers who stopped because of this site. They are just trolls. Nothing else to do I guess. Sigh.

    Honestly, you’ve got nothing to worry about from GOMI; the thread was started by one person who didn’t like your blog, but the rest of the thread is all people coming out of the woodwork to say they like your blog. I think you are even mentioned in the SOMI forum (somewhere). Definitely nothing to worry about.

    Wow – I never knew there were sites like this! So not worth it!. Love your blog and I love the fact that you pointed out your poopy pictures (I was going to suggest a dessert plate filled with tootsie rolls and baby ruth bars 😉 That’s what we like about you – you’re real! Have a great trip 🙂

    The reason I like your blog so much is that you are real. You don’t sugar coat anything or claim to be anything besides real. I love your blog, and all your recipes. You are a normal person eating real food and working the hard way to make yourself the healthiest person you can be. Ignore the haters for sure!

    Wow…she really is full of it, isn’t she?!?! You’re definitely a SOMI and if she doesn’t want to read your blog, well good riddance. You’re not forcing her, nobody is. If she felt the need to post on GOMI, she could have easily emailed you. It’s not like she doesn’t have a way to contact you.

    But wait…the meat did look like poop! That doesn’t mean it didn’t taste delicious, which is how I imagine all of your food tastes. When I read that post, I about spit out my precious morning coffee at work! I still don’t get it- what is different about what you posted, versus what you always have? Frank, honest, warm, friendly, and hilarious! Remember during insanity, and we would get your wonderful boob shots!? I would crack up when you said ‘You’re welcome’. That is so my sense of humor and it just about killed me! haha People have such brazen balls to be rude online. To be dismissive and ugly, when in reality, I don’t think most people have much courage to even do the right thing, let alone be jerks. I am happy you addressed that, but in the future- don’t feel like you have to! Biz, I don’t know you, but you rock everyday. You live a real, authentic, life with choices- good, bad, ?- like the rest of us. As my friend’s grandma recently said “Can’t let the haters get you down.” 😀

    I wouldn’t let it bother you. When you put stuff on the internet, it is fair game for praise and criticism. Not everyone is going to like and/or agree with everything that gets posted. That person is entitled to have their opinion, just as those of us who support you have that right.

    BIz, I read several GOMI forums on a semi-regular basis. It’s how I keep up with some blogs that I just cannot stand to read/support any more, and I love the snarky goodness of most of the GOMI posters.

    That said, you are definitely a SOMI for me!

    Ok, so I guess I “get” your sense of humor. I thought it was funny what you said about the poop stuff. GOMI people by and large seem to be seriously lacking in objectivity. And having a life. And diplomacy. And Kindness. And the list goes on and on. They are “Mean Girls” a thousand times over who really don’t have anything better to do than be mean, judge and snark and pick people apart 24/7. I find it disgusting. Revolting. You keep doing what you do. You are the real deal, Biz. And we all love you for who you are! =) oh and what Melanie said up above THUMBS UP. Do it. Name a dish after her. LOL.

    From what I see that site looks like gossip. And some folks get pleasure out of trash talk. I was always taught that if one has nothing good to say than don’t say it. Forget about it and get on with your vacation. That site looks like another time waster to me!

    Geez Louise, the ONE DAY I have to go to work, and something like this blows up. For what it’s worth, I don’t always like what you post (chicken feet, haha), but I either say so, or I just don’t comment. We can’t please everyone with every post, and I, as a fellow blogger, know that. I hope you don’t let this bother you anymore…although, I didn’t realize until someone on GOMI pointed it out, that you using paper plates is somehow terrible. 😉

I work where death is always on my mind (assisted living) so when i get home and log on, and the F bomb had been dropped a time or too, it makes the day not so serious.

    Wait… did anyone read the rest of the GOMI thread? After that first post, there’s just a bunch of people talking about how much they love this site, the realness, the recipes, and how they think the OP is totally off base.

    Because of all the shit people are talking, I feel like I need to defend GOMI. I’m a longtime GOMI member, and it started because of bloggers who were increasingly censuring legitimate dissensions or critiques. So readers found another outlet. Read the “How did you find GOMI” thread for many examples. The site continued when some of these bloggers started deleting every comment that wasn’t a complete suck-up, abusing and not disclosing affiliate links, etc.

    Users definitely crosses the line sometimes (for which they often get called out), which is inexcusable, but it’s not some cesspool of hate or bullying.

      I haven’t read the particular comment in question, but I actually found your blog through GOMI. It was on a SOMI thread where people were listing blogs they loved, and so many people raved about this one that I wanted to check it out. I have been a loyal reader since. I love your voice, your adoration of your family, your dedication to your marriage and your husband, your strength in his absence, your commitment to health, and your obvious humor and generosity. If someone didn’t like your poop meat pictures, it has nothing to do with you. It has to do with them. You put your stories online and while most people seem to love them, obviously one person didn’t. That’s their business, not yours. Just keep doing you. I’m really glad GOMI lead me to this awesome blog.

      I echo this comment. Biz, I’m a GOMI reader myself and I’m sort of sad that you put this thread out there. If you read the rest of the thread, over and over, everyone says how much they like you and think you’re great – a real refreshing person in the food blogging world.

      I know everyone thinks we’re all evil nasty trolls, but we are not. We have lives, jobs, and don’t just live in a basement eating ham.

    OMG! That is hysterical! You know I love you and we would certainly be BFFs if we lived closer so I definitely want you to SOMI. Of all the crap out there, someone has the BALLS to talk smack about you (crap and balls – ha!)? Apparently they are ok that you swear like a sailor at times (just keeping it real) but run to GOMI because you commented that your food looked like poooo (which it definitely did!). That is just so ridiculous. Keep on keeping it real Biz – that’s why we LOVE YOU!!!! XO

    Wow. Just wow. Never heard of that site before and won’t bother going back, but I was there long enough to see her getting shot down. You’re definitely a SOMI (stupid term) for me and if she doesn’t like your blog she has a much easier way to avoid that offence. And BTW, crass? I think you’re down to earth, real, and fun – and you handled losing Tony with a great deal more grace and courage than most people could manage. So SHE is the one who should GOMI (even stupider term. Arrggh)

    I’m not sure I understand all the hate here. Last I checked, people are still allowed to have opinions. If pictures of “poo” and salty language bother someone, then I don’t believe they’re necessarily being mean (or a “troll” or even a “dumbass”) when they feel the need to express that opinion. This entire comment thread is one large expression of opinion. Does that mean it’s okay when in agreement but it should be banned and belittled when it’s contrary?

While I am really sorry Biz has hurt feelings about all this, people do have a right to express their opinions. Maybe that reader could have said something to Biz directly, but maybe they didn’t know how. In any case, hating on that person is crazy. When you blog, you open yourself up to other people’s opinions. Freedom of speech goes both ways.

    I took a look at GOMI and it seems like it was basically only one person who has an ax to grind. Your use of a paper plates seems to have caused a stir between a few of them LOL I just find it quite strange that the person didn’t just ask you directly about your sponsors or any other concerns.

    Anyway, since I’m new to your blog, I’m enjoying finding some new twists on recipes like your adapted MIL’s Banana Bread that I’m going to try out this weekend 🙂

    I know people like her. Too much freaking time on their hands and they just aren’t happy unless they’re minding everyone and anyone’s business but their own.     Hey Biz! Your blog is one of my very favorites, though I admit I lurk on GOMI. I started out as a dedicated reader of several Healthy Living blogs (mainly the women who have all gotten book deals and then quit their day jobs). Eventually, they became unrelatable to me, and I stopped trusting their content (too many sponsored posts; couldn’t empathize with the challenges of eating healthy for people who didn’t have to leave the house to get their work done). I was thrilled to find your blog a few years ago, because it presented that authenticity — along with all the charms and warts of a REAL life — which I found to be missing from the now-professional bloggers. Your food is real; your tone is real. It is so refreshing in the cooking/healthy blogging world to see that. Keep on keeping on!
